Ras Al Khaimah, UAE; February 19, 2020: Al Hamra, the Ras Al Khaimah-based real estate development and investment company, is further highlighting its commitment to corporate social responsibility, by extending its support to Pink Caravan, the pan-UAE breast cancer initiative under the Friends of Cancer Patients’ umbrella “Kashf” for early detection of cancer.
Manar Mall, one of Al Hamra’s flagship mall offerings, will be the venue partner of the Pink Caravan Ride, which travels across the nation to promote breast cancer awareness. The mall will also host the Pink Caravan clinic for 20 days from February 16 to March 6, enabling residents and visitors to the emirate to undertake breast cancer screenings and gain a more comprehensive understanding of breast cancer, its symptoms and the need for early diagnosis.
According to the World Health Organisation, breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women, with around 2.1 million diagnosed each year. Women aged over 40 are recommended to do a clinical breast exam every year. Men can also suffer from breast cancer as it usually occurs in those over the ages of 60 although younger men too are vulnerable. In the UAE, the National Cancer Registry cites breast cancer as the leading cause of cancer deaths.
Pink Caravan was launched in 2011 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Founder and Patron of the Friends of Cancer Patients Society (FoCP), International Ambassador of the World Cancer Declaration for Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC. Since then, it has gained recognition locally, regionally, and internationally, and has appointed ambassadors from different walks of life to promote and advocate its mission. The Pink Caravan Ride is led by 200 volunteering medical personnel who offer free medical examinations.
Pink Caravan tours the seven emirates reaching even remote areas. Manar Mall serves as a key stopover to enable women across the Northern Emirates to undertake breast cancer screenings as well as dispel any misconceptions about the diseases by interacting with medical experts.
Sarah Fayed, Head of Marketing and Assistant Vice President of Marketing, Communications & PR, Al Hamra, said: “Our commitment to the community is a strong pillar of our destination enhancement strategy that aims to position Al Hamra as the integrated destination of choice for UAE residents and visitors. Breast cancer is one of the key concerns in the region, and we are committed to further strengthening awareness about it through our partnership with Pink Caravan. Manar Mall hosts residents and visitors from across the country, and serves as a convenient venue, especially for residents in the Northern Emirates, to fight breast cancer through free screening and awareness building.”
Pink Caravan’s state-of-the-art medical clinic will conduct the free clinical breast check-ups, in addition to 3D mammography, ultrasound testing and cervical cancer screenings. Visitors can benefit from the screenings conducted at Manar Mall daily from 4pm to 10pm.
